Understandably, the Louvre Pyramid isn’t everybody’s cup of tea. (Neither was the Eiffel Tower when it was first constructed.) Still, you have to give credit where credit is due. Standing in stark contrast to the historic Louvre Palace, you can’t deny I. M. Pei’s ability to inject a bit of modern architecture into such classical elegance. Its sleek geometric design and reflective surfaces create a fascinating interplay of light and shadow and, in the end, it’s become one of the most recognizable symbols of Paris.
